3. There are 3 basic types of players in oblivion. They are fighters, thieves and mages.

But those are just the outline characters and you can make a character like a spell sword or a assassin so
it all depends on how you want to play the game and below I am going to tell you the different races and
what category they fit into but in the end it should be what you want it to be.

Argonian- Mainly a stealth character with a few warrior and mage skills thrown in. But the skill bonuses are
weak and has no once a day powers so is only recommended for lizard lovers.

Breton- purely a mage character and its +50 magic is not bad, combined with the resistance to magic and you
got yourself a really nice character. It lacks in the ability to protect itself against attacks and has no
real fighting perks but good if you are looking for a character to introduce you to magic.

Dark elf- not really much of anything. This character was made in the last game designed to take on all the
challenges Morrowind could through at you. But in oblivion there really is no use for him. Some people like
the irregular skills of the dark elf and like that it has blade and destruction with the perks, but I do
not see why, then again I like a character with only the skills that are meant to be with it

High Elf- This is a mage character and has no real fighting is stealth skills to go with it. It has a +100
magic which is twice as more as the Breton but it comes with one major downfall. It has a 100% weakness
to magic so it is really risky because you might die before you can cast a spell. Recommended for
experienced magic players

Imperial-The game takes place in the homeland of the imperials called Cyrodil. But the character is nothing
to be proud of; it is a mock fighter with weak skill bonuses. The only good thing is it introduces the whole
game of oblivion to you and not just one aspect. But it lacks the skill perks and once a day powers the
other races have.

Khajiit- Probably the most stealth oriented character in the game. The skill perk are strong and with the
acrobatic and light armor skill perks you got yourself a real thief. The only thing it lacks is the marksman
ability, because in my opinion you need to have marksman to be a good thief. Recommended for new to the game
thieves

Nord- this is a fighter pure and simple. He goes kills anything that looks at him funny then walks away,
he has no need for stealth are fruity magic spells he goes of pure strength and that alone. The nord are
said to be barbarians and drunks in there province of Skyrim. But they are the strongest and best warriors
in the game next to the orc and have great skill bonuses.

Orc- The orc is like the nord with a few differences. It has less strength then the nord witch is strange
because they look stronger. But they have better skill bonuses for a fighter type so it really goes of
what you want; they also have a berserker power which makes them stronger for a short amount of time.

Redguard- It almost exactly like the orc but with different face and red skin. They have the same strength
almost the same skill perks. They even have adrenalin rush witch does the same thing as the orc berserker
power.

Wood Elf- This the character I always play, it has the best skill perks in my opinion and it has really the
only marksmanship skill perk from any of the races. They can command creatures to fight for them and they
can protect themselves from damage

4. In this section I am going to outline the importance of each skill to its character type and how fast
they level up. Here is the order of how fast they level up from slowest to fastest on the scale.
VERY slow, slow, Average, fast, lightning. Here is a basic outline of how will each skill look

Skill: how fast it levels up
The type of category it fits into
Description of the skill
And my opinion on the skill

Blade: Slow-Average
Fighting
It is very useful to fighters but a minor skill to everyone else in the game
I don’t like fighters so I could do without the skill but it is important to any fighter so I rate it essential

Blunt: Slow-Average
Fighting
Facts about the skill: Kind the underdog of fighting weaponry, most big rewards come in blade form
not blunt. So it is not completely useless but more useless then the blade skill

My opinion: I like blunt better then blade it looks color and has more style to it but most
rewards are blade so this would be rated a minor skill.

Hand To Hand: slow to average
Fighting
I think this is the coolest fighting skill but the most worthless. You can’t enchant you your
fist so you can’t fight ghost and the maximum strength is about the strength of an iron dagger

I love the fight with your hands concept but hate that you can’t win the game without some other
form of killing things

Alchemy: fast-lightning
Magic
This is a valuable skill to any character in the game. Good for power leveling to, all you
have to do is put two common foods together and mix them over and over again in till you
have maxed out your skill

I love this skill because it is helpful and I have it as a major skill for every
character I ever play

Destruction: average
Magic
This skill is required for mage types and good for a secondary fighting style when you can’t
use your sword. And some of the most powerful attacks in the game can be cast under this
school of magic

Every time I make a mage I get this skill up to 100 so I can cast spells that can make 110
points of damage to any character for little magic cost.

Conjuration: lightning fast
Magic
This skill is common for mage types but people from all forms of life us this skill. It allows
you to summon creatures to fight for you. You can also summon weapons and armor that weigh
nothing and they are all deadric
This skill I rarely use but always have on my mage. This skill levels up so fast, just keep
summoning up a skeleton for a while and watch your skill soar. It is also a great way to power level

Mysticism: Lightning fast
Magic
This skill the strangest school of magic in the world. They have the least amount of spells
you can get and the ones you don’t need are that you can’t enchant a powerful spell into your clothing
I like this skill because it levels up fast but is kind of worthless in the big picture

Illusion- Lighting fast
Magic
BEST SKILL EVER!!! This skill is invaluable to any mage are thief. You can make yourself
invisible are see in the dark are send light from you and light those dark caves. This skill
makes the game so much easier when you can just walk by without sneaking with invisibility.

Alteration-lighting fast
Magic
If you are skilled in armor you don’t need this skill. It is mainly meant to protect you from
other people’s attacks. It can also open locks but that is so minor that is not really even

worth considering when trying figuring out if this skill is worth taking.

Restoration-Painfully slow
Magic
This skill is the most useful skill next to illusion in the game. You can heal yourself up to
120 points in an instant and cure poison. So if you can master yourself in this skill you
pretty much can’t die. But it levels up slower than anything else in the game

Sneak: fast
Stealth
It helps you steal things without being seen, sneak around places so you don’t get caught so it
is pretty essential for any thief
In my opinion it is not that great of a skill, you can get around more easily with an invisibility
potion or scroll and that increases your chances that you won’t get caught.

Mercantile: slow
Stealth
One of the most important things in oblivion is money, and mercantile will let you sell your
items for more and buy items for less. And you can actually make a lot of extra gold doing that
This skill is kind of worthless, it is slow to level up and you can always make that extra
dungeon raid to get the money you lost. Plus you are giving up a valuable skill slot that
could have been used for a more important skill.

Speech craft: fast
Stealth skill
it allows you to get the NPC disposition up so you can get a better deal on buying or selling
goods are get some information out of a unwilling NPC
Once again a skill that’s purpose could be done by a scroll or spell. You could always just
bribe the person are use a charm spell on them for a quick easy fix and on a shop owner to.
It is only good if you want a pure stealth type character

Marksman: slow-average
Stealth
Marksman is the thinking man’s weapon. You can pick enemies of from a distance and poison
your arrows for a more deadly kick in the teeth. It allows you to get a sneak bonus attack
that could not be done as easily with the sword.
This is my favorite fighting type in the game; it allows you to stay far away from the NPC
while harming them. All you have to do is run faster than them to avoid getting hit.

Light armor: fast
Stealth
Light armor is meant for a marksman or a hardcore thief. Light armor does not weigh very much
but it can also take less damage and does not protect you as much as heavy armor
I love light armor, since I am a marksman I don’t need heavy armor since I won’t be getting
hit by others. Plus at the master skill perk light armor protects you as much as heavy armor
does. And at expert skill perk so long as you are wearing light armor it does not weigh
anything. So you got weightless heavy armor.

Athletics: Painfully slow
Fighter
When running in oblivion you lose fatigue. Fatigue is a very important attribute in oblivion
because it governs how much damage you can do when you swing a sword or shoot a bow. And every
time you jump or swing a sword you lose some fatigue and have to wait to gain it back, are you
won’t do much damage with your sword. Running slows your fatigue regeneration significantly,
so athletics makes your fatigue regenerate faster at higher levels.
To me another worthless skill you can always get back some fatigue with potion are spells.
Plus you could always slow down and walk when you want it to regenerate faster.

Heavy armor: fast
Fighter
Heavy armor is for fighters only; it provides some serious protection against attacks but
weighs 100-175 encumbrance points for a full set of heavy armor, And that would not work
for a thief are a mage. It wears down less quickly and can absorb more damage done by
attackers then light armor.

I don’t like this skill, since I am a thief I can’t carry much stuff with light armor so
adding 150 pounds to that is not going to help. But it is essential to all fighter types
since they are going toe to toe with some of the bad guys so it is recommended for
fighters only.

Acrobatics: slow- average
Stealth
Acrobatics lets you jump up to higher to reach places you normally couldn’t. It can let
you go on top of a building and snipe people with a bow in a safe area.
This is a good skill if you want to be able to reach places others cannot, and some
Easter eggs in the game require a high acrobatics skill. It is mainly for fun though,
because at the master skill perk you have the ability to jump of the surface of water
with perfect timing.

Block: average
Fighter
Blocking with a shield are a sword will let you take less damage from attacks, blocking with a
shield absorbs more damage than blocking with a bow are a sword. It also adds to your armor
rating overall
Blocking is good for fighters, and even a thief might need to use it once in a while when he
lets an enemy get to close to him, so I would call it an overall good skill for anyone.

Armor repair (the only reason I am calling it that is that the computer says the real term is
wrong so I can’t us it): average

Fighting
Armor repair lets you fix your armor and weapons when they get broken are just out of shape.
Damage armor protects you from attacks less and damage weapons do less damage. So when you are

in a cave and your weapon breaks you need to know how to fix it yourself
This is a good overall skill; at journeyman level of this skill you can repair magical items
which are good when you need them to stay alive in the field. So this skill is good for most
characters but would not be a major skill for thieves or mages.

Security: slow
Stealth
Security lets you liberate those nice items from the unworthy and give them to the less
fortunate (which is you). As you increases in level the locks will become harder to jimmy
so do not neglect your security skill.
This skill is not worth getting in my opinion, because at level 10 you can do a daedric
quest where you get an unbreakable lock pick as a reward, so there is no need for this skill overall

6 tips and tricks for Oblivion

1. the first thing you should do after you exit the sewers is put the difficulty on the
lowest it will go if you want a easy but fun game play experience.

2. After you exit the sewers go to the imperial city arena. Enter the arena and fight
all the way up to the top and kill the grand champion. By the end you should have 5000
gold at level one. A great way to by some better armor then the one you came out of the
dungeon with.

3. The first thing you should do after the arena is go to the mages guild in any city
(except the imperial city) and join the guild. Then complete the entire recommendation
quest to gain access to the Arcane University in the imperial city.

4. After that get a spell go buy a spell that will damage an opponent’s SKIL not attribute.
You have to be able to cast the spell, that means at your skill level and you have enough magic.

5. After you have the spell ready go back to the Arcane University and go to the building
farthest on your right. The building is located behind the black gates in the open area.
There should be enchanting alters there, activate one and create a spell that drains the
SKILL you want to upgrade. That means you have to get a spell that drains the skill on
yourself.

6. After you have done that, go to the trainer of the skill you want upgraded. Then right
before you talk to them about training, cast the spell on yourself, then talk to them
while the spell is still in effect, when you click the train button you should be able
to train for almost free since you have a skill of zero he can’t charge for it. And after
you get done training you should have 5 extra skill points with less work and money. This
is great to do for your fighting skill because you want to get better at those very fast.

7. To get your armor skill high very fast just put the difficulty on the lowest setting
there is. Then go out in the wilderness and find a rat or something and have it hit you. Your
armor rating should skyrocket. Just make sure that you don’t die while doing this, and
repair your armor otherwise it will break. The same works for blocking to.

8. I considered this cheating, but I am going to post it anyway. In oblivion you can duplicate
items that you have in your inventory. What you need to do is get as many scrolls of the same
type as you need to duplicate. For instance if you want 30 long swords you need 30 of the same
type scroll. After you have that, go to a open space somewhere. Then go to the part of your
inventory where it shows all the items. Then go down to the scrolls, and click on them about
6 times really fast. Do not leave the screen while doing this. Then scroll back up to the item
you want duplicated and drop it on the ground. You should have that many number of items as
there were scrolls. ( This will not work on magic items that are not fully charged or some
special items like the nirnroot )
